Oswald was created by Walt Disney when he worked at Universal. He never owned the rights to this character, and it would eventually be taken over by other animators. The most notable was Walter Lantz.

However, he never achieved the popularity of other movie tough guys. Leonard today is best remembered as a pioneering television producer who helped create The Danny Thomas Show, The Dick van Dyke Show, The Andy Griffith Show, and Gomer Pyle.
